Segmentation and Articulatory Interpretation of Speech Signals
About
About the course
Course content
This course addresses the problem of segmentation, i.e. the question of how linguistic units in an utterance such as words, syllables and phonemes can be mapped onto parts of a speech signal. A central question is how to use the acoustic signal to determine the articulation that led to the acoustic result.
Learning outcome
Students will refine practical phonetic skills that are difficult to acquire through theoretical study.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, group instructions and laboratory exercises with supervision. The course may be taught in English or Norwegian, depending on who is teaching it.
More on assessment: Obligatory laboratory exercises must be approved before the student may sit the written exam. In special cases, students can send an application for a take-home exam to the Department.
