Master's Thesis in Phonetics
About
About the course
Course content
Starting point: The Master's thesis is an independent scientific work conducted under supervision. Normally, the thesis will be linked to a topic in the field offered by the department. A plan for the thesis will be made together with one of the department's instructors. The plan (consisting of theme, central issue and method) must be approved by the department, and a supervisor must be appointed before starting.
Learning outcome
The goal of the course is to aid students in becoming capable of conducting independent research given supervision, and that they are able to document their work through a Master's thesis that meets the requirements for scientific publication.
Learning methods and activities
Independent work with supervision. The thesis is usually between 60 and 100 typed A4-pages (line spacing 1.5). Joint theses may be approved if each student's contribution is clearly marked, and if each contribution can be considered to represent the same amount of work and have the same length as a normal Master's thesis. Assessment includes the thesis and a final oral exam. More on assessment: The oral exam may adjust the grade on the thesis. The deadline for submitting the thesis in the spring term is 1st May, and in the autumn term 15th October.
