About the course
Course content
Students will study a selection of French literary texts. The focus will be on such matters as the texts' cultural historical context, thematic content, and generic characteristics. Students will be given practical training in interpreting literary texts and in relating their reading to issues within literary theory. As a result of their work with the selected texts students will be enabled to develop the understanding of cultural historical aspects as well as the capacity to read critically and self-consciously.
Learning outcome
Students should have developed the ability to analyse a selection of literary texts in the light of central perceptions and ideas in the texts' cultural context. Students should be able to relate the texts to a specific thematic or cultural historical perspective, and and to read critically and self-consciously.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and group sessions with discussion.
Assessment: Term paper based on the oral presentation, approx. 7-8 pages/3000 words. A 10 minutes oral exam based on the curriculum. The oral exam adjust the grade given for the term paper. The student must pass in both exams to get the final grade for the course.
