About the course

Course content

An academic exploration of approximately 80 pages in French (1.5 line spacing) of a linguistic or literary topic, or a topic in cultural studies. The thesis must be written in French.

Learning outcome

Students should be able to explore a specialized topic within their chosen discipline in a scholarly manner, and present their findings in French.

Learning methods and activities

Independent work, in combination with personal guidance. A preliminary grade will be determined on the basis of the written thesis. This may be adjusted after an oral exam (30-40 minutes). The oral exam is held in French.

The master's thesis must be submitted no later than 1 May in the spring semester/1 November in the autumn semester. It is possible to apply for two-week extension.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Fransk (MFRAN)

Required previous knowledge

Requires admission to the master's programme in French. FRA3400 In-depth course (for students admitted autumn 2007 or later). Students who want a topic in cultural studies for their thesis must have taken two of the following courses: EUR3401, HIST3105 and HIST3115.
