About the course
Course content
The course will dicuss the energy resources and their role in modern societies, both in a national and global perspective. Environmental effect are treated in detail. The future role of fossile and nuclear resources and their environmental problems are discussed. Energy technologes and use of solar, wind, ocean waves, hydro and biomass energy resources are discussed.
Learning outcome
The course will give basic information about the energy resources and their role in modern society. The students will learn to evaluate the potential, advantages and disadvantages of the various energy resources.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, compulsory written exercises and project. 4 out of 9 excersies has to be approved and the project report has to be approved, to get admission to the exam. The project work is performed in groups of three students. At a re-sit examination the exam may be changed from written to oral.

Recommended previous knowledge
Students should have the equivalent of two years university studies (120 study credits), including at least one full year unit (60 credits) in a disipline. The course is primarily intended for (non physics) students that intend to take a Master degree in natural resources management. Also other interested students may apply. Physics students may choose TFY4300 in stead.
