About the course

Course content

The course is given every other year, next time spring 2011. Overview of superconducting materials. Physics of superconductivity, both microscopic quantum theory and phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau theory. Special emphasis on the structure and properties of high-Tc cuprate superconductors. Applications of superconductors, both on the small scale and on the large scale.

Learning outcome

To reach a level of knowledge which facilitates the entry into superconductivity as a field of research, or to provide a general knowledge in the field for solid state physicists and electrical engineers.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, colloquia, or guided self study, depending on the number of students. Take home problems. A short report to be written by each student on a subject of her/his own choice.
