People and Place II
About
About the course
Course content
An introduction to some of the central themes, concepts and methods of approach from many of Geographys sub-disciplines is provided through lectures and fieldwork. This is related to a Norwegian urban context. Part of the teaching is based on examples from Trondheim. Students acquire knowledge of the citys historical development, current problems and spatial conflicts, together with characteristics of city landscapes, populations, living standards, and economy. The emphasis is on the relationship between individual and community, as well as the relationships between local, national and global processes.
Group assignments are included as part of the fieldwork. Each group prepares a field-work report, which must be approved before the written examination can be taken.
