About the course
Course content
The course focuses mainly on health status, disease/injury and risk factors, however the geography of health services at different levels is also discussed. The main emphasis is on health and diseases in developing countries.General trends in health and societal risk factors and environmental factors in different parts of the world are also covered. The course covers studies from quantitative and qualitative research traditions.
The course includes a presentation on health and medical literature in libraries and databases. Students' own reading will form the basis for writing a term paper, followed by an oral presentation at a seminar. The term paper must be approved before the written examination can be taken.
Learning outcome
The course gives a broad knowledge of geographical perspectives on health and health services and their development features.
Learning methods and activities
16 hours lectures, 8 hours seminars.Please note that the course may be cancelled due to the teaching capacity at the Department of Geography if less than 5 students register for the course. Check www.ntnu.no/geografi/studentinformasjon for updated information.
