About the course

Course content

The course seeks to combine an interdisciplinary and subject-specific approach. It aims at outlining different perceptions of gender within different social scientific traditions. Theoretical and methodological perspectives related to the use of gender as an analytical category and how these are manifested in social-scientific research are examined in the context of development challenges. The course also includes presentations of empirical material from gender-specific research, policy and practices within the field of geography, development studies and other social sciences.

Learning outcome

The course offers an overview of the main themes of international social scientific research on gender with particular emphasis on the global South, and provides a theoretical platform for further studies on gender-related issues.

Learning methods and activities

16 hours lectures, 10 hours seminars (depending on the number of students) with active involvement from students. Please note that the course may be cancelled due to the teaching capacity at the Department of Geography if less than 5 students register for the course. Required previous knowledge

Bachelor in social science. Other relevant qualifications can be accepted upon approval by the Department of Geography.
