About the course

Course content

The course builds on master’s course GEOG 3506- Geography, Health and Developement. Candidates who have not taken this foundation course should attend the GEOG 3506 lectures and read the course literature. The lectures/seminars in the master course GEOG3505 will normally be given in English.

As in GEOG3506, the main emphasis of the course is on the situation in developing countries, but more general development trends in health and health services in different parts of the world are also covered. GEOG8505 is a reading course and the reading list will be decided upon individually. The paper can be handed in, in either English or Norwegian.


Learning outcome

The course aims at providing candidates with high competence on health geography, espcialle as regards:
1) Health status, disease/injury and risk/risk factors
2) Geography of health services at different levels, with emphasis on demand and use, availability and accessibility, prevention, and treatment.
