About the course

Course content

The course builds on master’s course GEOG 3514 Slope Systems and Material Transport. Candidates who have not taken this foundation course should attend the GEOG 3514 lectures and read the course literature. The master course GEOG3514 is taught in Norwegian.

A in GEOG3514 the course studies processes and process systems that contribute to material transport and hence to the development of the physical landscape, with focus on the boreal, polar and alpine regions. Emphasis is on the processes that operate on slopes, and on the relative significance of different material fluxes within an area. The course provides examples of applied research objectives linked to land use, intervention and protection measures in exposed regions at risk, as well as system response to changes in climate. The course is taught every other year, alternating with course GEOG 3513 Fluvial Processes.

GEOG8514 is a reading course and the reading list will be decided upon individually. The paper can be handed in, in either English or Norwegian.

Learning outcome

The course aims at providing candidates with high competence on slope systems, and a comprehensive evaluation of different forms of material transport and their significance in the development of landscapes in cool and cold regions.
