About the course

Course content

The course builds on the masters course GEOG 3561. Candidates who have not taken this course should attend the GEOG 3561 lectures and read the course literature.

As in GEOG3561, the course offers an introduction to the main themes of international social scientific research on gender, and provides a theoretical platform for further studies on gender-related issues. The course seeks to combine an interdisciplinary and subject-specific approach. It aims at outlining different perceptions of gender within different social scientific traditions. Theoretical and methodological problems related to the use of gender as an analytical category and how these are manifested in social scientific research are examined. The course also includes presentations of empirical material from gender-specific research within the field of geography and other social sciences.

GEOG8561 is a reading course and the reading list will be decided upon individually.
