Course content

This course entails practical training in a research laboratory affiliated within the Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science at NTNU Trondheim. Research questions are developed by the involved research group and will vary from student to student. Literature will be identified and objectives for study progression developed on an individual basis tailored to the field of research the student will work in.

Learning outcome

The student should be able to explore, problematize, present and discuss a targeted scientific problem within the field of biomedical laboratory science. The student should be able to write a scientific report and discuss the scientific content of the project orally. The student should be able to work together with scientific personnel on relevant scientific problems.

Learning methods and activities

Training in experimental research which will lead into independent work on a research question guided by staff in a research group. The work is written up in a scientific report. This can be done in small groups of 2-4 students or as an individual project. In addition, the student will give an oral presentation of his/her work and results. Estimated workload: 870 hours.

There will be an individual plan for each student if this course is not passed.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Biomedical Laboratory Science (BBIOING)

Required previous knowledge

This course is only for students accepted as exchange students in the 3rd year at the department of biomedical laboratory science at NTNU, Trondheim. This course cannot be taken unless the student is approved by the department as an exchange student and a place in a research laboratory is found for the student. This will be done on an individual basis based on the agreement with the partner university, the availability of research projects and resources at our department. The number of students the department can accommodate will vary from year to year.

Relevant literature has to be sought out by the individual student under guidance by staff in the research group.
