About the course
Course content
The history of medieval music gives a good possibility to investigate the relationship between political power and cultural activities. Main topic of the course is the interrelationship between ecclesiastical and "governmental" institutions if it comes to music, and the role of composers. The seminary will also try to answer the question which function ecclesiastical music obtained in the political reality of the Middle Ages.
Learning outcome
The students receive an introduction into historical and musicological problems, sources, literature and methods with special emphasis on questions of general history.
Learning methods and activities
The course starts with an introduction of music history, and proceeds with student activities.

Recommended previous knowledge
HIST1110 and HIST1150, at least historical basics between 800-1500.
