About the course
Course content
The main theme of this course is the Norwegian kings' relationship with the Norse island communities west and southwest of Norway (Iceland, Greenland, the Faroes, Shetland, Orkney, Man and the Hebrides) c. 800-1350. Focus on the Norwegian state development process consequences for these communities and discuss what kind of state the Norwegian kingdom became during the High Middle Ages.

Learning objectives are to address the changing nature of the relationship between the Norwegian crown and the Norse world 800-1350.

Lectures and one mandatory paper. 4 hours written exam.
