About the course

Course content

This course will give a historical introduction to selected themes from what people at all times have filled their life with: work and everyday life. The focus will be on cultural aspects of how those fields have been transformed over the last two centuries, with industry, urbanization, mass communication and new family patterns. Perhaps work and everyday life have undergone more basic changes during the last fifty years than since the beginning of industrialization?

Learning outcome

Give a historical introduction and understanding of cultural aspects of changes in peoples work and daily life from 1800 to 2000.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and seminars.
Every student must write one approved essay, or give a seminar presentation during the course.

Compulsory assignments
