Course content

The work people have been living by, has undergone fundamental changes during modern time. So has the cultural meanings and contexts the work has been part of, in peoples life, and in society. This course gives an understanding of historical changes in work and culture, and of theoretical and methodological ways of investigating work and culture historically.

Learning outcome

A candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome according to the course content (see above):

Knowledge

  • The student is expected to gain insights into, and fundamental understanding of, some of the chosen themes within the history of work, and of theories and methods being used to investigate work and culture historically.

Skills​

  • The student should be able to work critically with literature within this field of research, and to develop questions and own projects within the field.

Lectures and seminars. Home exam.

Compulsory assignments

  • Presentation during seminar

Required previous knowledge

BA in history or equivalent.
