About the course

Course content

This course provides an introduction to various qualitative research approaches. Special emphasis is on interview techniques and field-observation, while other methods will be presented more generally (e.g. document and text analysis). This course presents and discusses issues of design, sampling, data-collection, analysis and dissemination. The exam is performing analysis of qualitative materials.

Learning outcome

The student shall be able to use different approaches in qualitative research: methods of gathering data, analysing data and presentation of findings.

Learning methods and activities

Teaching methods and activities: Lectures and exercise-assignments.
Compulsory activities: two written assignments.
Form of assessment: Home exam.

Compulsory assignments

Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in health science, social work or the social sciences.
