About the course
Course content
The basic theories of individual, group and social interaction are introduced. The first perspective focus upon the development and learning of the individual, development, self-perception and identity. The interaction perspective focuses on group processes and the interconnections between coach and athlete in relation to play, physical activity and sports. Emphasis is on understanding the importance of self perception, well-being and continued physical activity related to both elite sport and the establishment of a physically active lifestyle.
Learning outcome
Students are given a basic understanding of children and young peoples development and status in society. Sport as a socializing factor, in terms of organizing training and play, is stressed.
Learning methods and activities
Throughout the semester there are 4 hours of lectures and 2 hours of group discussion per week. There is a compulsory term paper about child and youth sports. A structured observation of sports activity with children or youth is a required part of the course. Form of assessment is the term paper and a 4 hours written exam, each contributing 50% on the final grade.
