About the course

Course content

The course addresses questions on whether processes of individualization and globalization have led to new cultural values, norms and expectations. The course will focus upon the relevance of sport, generational cultures and popular culture in a historical and comparative perspective.

Learning outcome

The aim of the course is to provide the students with an overview of sociological and social science perspectives on the interrelationship between the individual and society. Particular emphasis will be given to sport, cultural institutions, body and social identity in late modernity.

Learning methods and activities

Teaching methods and activities: 2 hours lectures and 2 hours groupe discussions per week. Form of assessment: 4 hours written exam.
