About

About the course

Course content

Transition metals are becoming more and more important in modern organic synthesis. This is particulary true for organic transformations which are impossible or difficult to achieve by classic organic chemistry. The important role of organometallic complexes within catalysis will be discussed. An introduction to the bonds and structures of transition metal complexes, together with a summary of their elementary reactions will be given. Special emphasis will be put on the application of metal complexes in organic synthesis. The lectures will include recent literature.

Learning outcome

After completing this course the student will have gained broad knowledge about the application of organometallic compounds within organic synthesis.

Learning methods and activities

The course is given every second year, next time will be spring 2011. Lectures (4 hours per week) and exercises (2 hours per week). English teaching by request. For extraordinary or re-sit examinations, written examination may be changed to oral examination.
