Course content
The course is an introduction to clinical epidemiology and evidence based medicine. The training is concentrated on the reliability and validity of diagnostic and prognostic practice. Further, it will be worked on how the efficacy and effectiveness of health care services can be assessed. The search for appropriate literature and the principles for critical appraisal will be reviewed. The teaching will use examples from evaluation of clinical practice and of different health care services. The training in critical appraisal of relevant literature will be emphasized.
Learning outcome
By completing the course the students should have acquired skills in the use and inference of diagnostic tests and prognostic information, and have learned how to design studies on reliability and validity of diagnostic and prognostic information. They should also be able to design evaluation studies on different health care services and critically appraise medical literature
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, essays and group work. The lectures will take place the weeks the master program of Clinical Health Science has intensive education. The subject will only be offered if enough students register. If there are any English speaking students, the lectures will be given in English. Form of assessment can be changed.
