About the course

Course content

The Master's thesis must be scientifically structured and be founded in valid theory and literature within the topics at hand. The thesis should be oriented towards patient groups or the arena where patient health services are provided. Research focus areas may be assessment of mechanisms, risks and causes, methods, treatments and interventions or classification and categorization of patient groups. Also topics like health care organization, external conditions, costs and interaction between sectors and professions may be chosen. Studies of clinical practice and dissemination of scientific results and knowledge are accepted granted methods of hypothesis testing are applied. The research must comprise elements of originality. It is expected that the student shows an independent contribution to data collection and/or analysis, and presentation of results. It is advisable to hook-up the research to active research groups or projects within the faculty or university hospital.

Learning outcome

Through the thesis the student shall acquire experience and knowledge in writing a research protocol, carry out and communicate the results of clinical or epidemiological trials.

Learning methods and activities

Individual supervision limited to 50 hours. The supervisor must hold a scientific position at The Faculty of Medicine. A research protocol must be submitted by the student accompanied by the supervisors signature before or immediately after initiation of the work with the thesis. The due for submiting the protocol is April 15. in the second semester.

Cumpulsory activities: Attendance and presentation of project plan or progress report (10 min.) is compulsatory once every semester from the second semester after entrance into the study programme.

Assessment: Master's thesis and oral presentation/examination used to adjust the grade of the thesis.
The Master's thesis must be accomplished in 4 yars after enrolled in the programme.
A detailed guideline for the thesis exists and is to be followed.

Required previous knowledge

The student must be enrolled in the Master's degree programme in Clinical Health Science. He/she must have passed all exams in the programme.
