About the course
Course content
The course consists of an historical presentation of art theory and aesthetics from the Antiquity to Modernism and Post-Modernism, where modern theory is emphasised. Fundamental questions such as concepts of art and criterias of assessment will be emphasised.
Learning outcome
The course will give an historical and systematic overview of theories of aesthetics. Criterions of art assessment are emphasised.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures/seminars and self study. Students decide on a topic/problem to be addressed for their essay in consultation with the course instructor.

Recommended previous knowledge
Basic knowledge within two, as well as a specialization within one of the programme's subject areas.
Required previous knowledge
The course requires admission to the Master's programme in Art Criticism and Cultural Dissemination. Successful applicants to the programme must hold a BA with a specialization within at least one of the programme's subject areas

A list containing suggested reading material will be presented at the beginning of the semester.
