About

About the course

Course content

Numerical solution methods in nonlinear finite element analysis. The course contains among other things explicit and implicit time integration, equilibrium iterations, linearization and stability analysis of the solution algorithms. Contact-impact analyses are also treated. The nonlinearities are classified (material, geometrical, boundary conditions).

Learning outcome

The course aims at giving the students a modern exposition of numerical solution methods in nonlinear finite element analysis.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and mandatory homework assignments. 2/3 of the homework assignments must be approved to take the final exam. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegain take the course.
