About the course

Course content

Students choose, in agreement with the course director, an art history topic for in-depth study - either from two-dimensional art/sculpture, architecture, or art theory. The chosen topic must be from a different field than that of the topic for the Master's thesis.



Learning outcome

The objective is to provide the students with the experience of conducting an in-depth study of an art history topic.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and seminars, including supervision, in groups and individually.

Course requirements:
Students must pass an oral presentation of their project proposals before being eligible for final assessment.

More on assessment:
A scholarly paper based on a seminar talk. The essay must be about 5000 words, exclusive of bibliography.

Students are required to check the result of their assignment on the department's bulletin boards.

Students are required to stay updated on any information given by the department or course director; either via It's learning, Innsida, course pages on the Web, or on bulletin boards.

Compulsory assignments

  • Approved curriculum submitted no later than 3 weeks befor examination
  • Oral seminar presentation

Kunstkritikk og kulturformidling (MKUNKUL)

Required previous knowledge

Bachelor's degree with a specialization (major) in Art History. Admission to the Master's programme in Art History.

A reading list of approx. 750 pages, including illustrations.
