About the course
Course content
The course covers the study of poetry from the Augustan era, both in the original language and in translation, with an introduction to ancient metre.
Learning outcome
Students should acquire an ability to read and translate Latin poetry from the classical period, and should obtain knowledge of the cultural background for the texts.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and seminars. Final oral exam, where the student is expected to read with scansion, translate and comment on texts from the curriculum.

Course materials
Ca. 1000 vers, including 1 song from the Aeneid by Vergil, ca. 100 pages poetry in translation, secondary literature on cultural and literary history.
