Course content

This course provides a basic understanding of documentation management and digital work tools. Introduction to web development and teamwork, the way the internet and local networks work, data processing of graphics and multimedia, HTML and CSS coding, as well as data security.

The course content has transfer value for work with digital documentation in varied institutions and businesses.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The student has

  • basic knowledge of computer networks and how they work, including the internet and local area networks
  • knowledge about records management standards
  • knowledge of case handling and records management systems
  • an understanding of basic HTML and CSS and the terms virtualization and cloud computing
  • basic knowledge about threats and measures related to data security

Skills

The student can

  • contribute to well working routines and best practices in archival and records management activities
  • read and understand how an HTML document is built up, and do simple editing of the code
  • use the basic functionality of a given publishing system for publishing content on the internet
  • write process documentation such as time sheets, week reports, meeting summons and meeting minutes, and set up a work contract between team members
  • conduct simple electronic record keeping tasks

General competence

The student can

  • work independently with tasks in archives and records management functions in public and private organizations
  • choose suitable collaboration tools and use such tools to solve tasks with others
  • explain how to establish and implement projects
  • apply basic knowledge of team collaboration and team development
  • apply the principal understanding of how archives and records management systems work to any system managing records

A combination of lectures, seminars and assignment-related seminars.

Mandatory work requirements:

  • 1 academic text
  • 3 ICT-simulated exercises

Mandatory activities are assessed on a pass-fail basis and must be passed in order for the student to take the course exam.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Archives, Museums and Records Management (LTARKIV) - some programmes
