About
About the course
Course content
This course gives an introduction to the use of digital methods for processing spoken and written speech. As main tools for speech analysis the Praat and Typecraft software will be used. The analysis involves transcription using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), segmentation and annotation of speech recordings. In addition, instrumental analysis of fundamental frequency contours (word accents, tones, intonation), spectral characteristics of vowels and consonants and intensity will be dealt with.
Text material will be analyzed morphologically and words and morphemes will be annotated using several tiers of annotation. You will learn to build and manage small corpora and develop an understanding of standards for text analysis and their implementation.

The goal of the course is for students to get acquainted with digital methods for annotation and analysis of speech and text.
