About

About the course

Course content

Starting point: The Master's thesis is an independent scientific work performed under supervision. Content: Normally, the thesis is thematically connected to one of the master subjects. A plan for the thesis is to be set up together with one of the instructors of the department, normally the person who will be acting as supervisor. The plan (stating theme, central problem and method) must be approved by the department, and a supervisor must be appointed before starting the work.

Learning outcome

The goal is to make students capable of both conducting independent research under supervision, and enabling the students to document their ability to do research that meets the requirements of scientific publishing.

Learning methods and activities

Independent work with supervision. The thesis is normally at least 60 typed A4-pages (line spacing 1.5). Joint work can be approved as a Master's thesis if each contribution is clearly marked and if each contribution is equivalent to a normal master thesis with respect to amount of work and size. Assessment includes the thesis and a final oral exam. More on assessment: The oral exam may adjust the grade on the thesis. The deadline for submitting the thesis in the spring term is 1st May, and in the autumn term 15th October.
