Course - Mathematical Methods A - MA0001
Mathematical Methods A
About
About the course
Course content
The course together with MA0002 will give a sufficient mathematical background for science courses only requiring basic mathematics. The course will introduce functions of one real variable, exponential, logarithm and trigonometric functions, differentiation and integration with applications, implicit differentiation, and linear approximation.
Learning outcome
Make the students able to apply basic one-dimensional mathematical analysis as a tool in practical problem solving in natural sciences.
Learning methods and activities
Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade awarded in the course. This portfolio comprises a written final examination 80% and the semester assignment 20%. The mid-semester examination only counts if it has a positive effect on the total assessment. The results for the constituent parts are to be given in %-points, while the grade for the whole portfolio (course grade) is given by the letter grading system.
