Course - Mathematical Methods B - MA0002
Mathematical Methods B
About
About the course
Course content
The course together with MA0001 will give a sufficient mathematical background for science courses only requiring basic mathematics. This course should also enable students to continue with mathematics courses that normally require MA1101 Basic calculus I, and with some additional effort enable students to continue with courses that normally require MA1102 Basic calculus II. The course will introduce functions of several variables, partial differentiation, double integrals, linear approximation, linear equations, matrices, eigen-values, differential equations, and systems of differential equations.
Learning outcome
Make the students able to apply basic linear algebra, theory of differential equations and functions of several variables as a tool in practical problem solving in natural sciences.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. The assessment of the students is given
through a written final examination by the letter grading system.
Compulsory assignments
- Exercises
Recommended previous knowledge
The course is based on MA0001 Mathematical methods A or equivalent.
Course materials
Will be announced at the start of the course.
