Numerical Methods
About
About the course
Course content
The students are supposed to know elementary part of mathematics like Taylor-expansions, integration and derivation. Among the topics of the course are interpolation and the least square methods. Numerical derivation and integration. None-linear equations and system of equations. Numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations. Some programming in MATLAB.
Learning outcome
The idea of the course is to make the students able to develop, implement and analyse certain numerical algorithms.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, compulsory exercises and mid-semester examination.
Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade awarded in the course. This portfolio comprises a written final examination 70% and the semester assignment 30%. The results for the constituent parts are to be given in %-points, while the grade for the whole portfolio (course grade) is given by the letter grading system.
Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.
