About
About the course
Course content
The course gives an introduction to the theory of C*-algebras and von Neumann algebras. The theory will be illustrated by concrete examples: approximately finite-dimensional (AF-) algebras; type I, II and III factors; group algebras; the hyperfinite II1 factor.
Learning methods and activities
The course will be offered every second year, next time: fall 2010. If enrollment falls below a critical number, the course will be offered as a supervised self-study.
Recommended previous knowledge
TMA4230 (SIF5054) Functional Analysis or equivalent. For students with exam in a course with old course number: This course assumes familiarity with the material covered in MNFMA325 Functional Analysis.
