About the course

Course content

Micro array technology (production, different formats, isolation and labeling of sample, hybridization, image analysis) Experiment design, data preprocessing and data analysis (statistical methods, databases for storing experiment data, methods of analysis) Micro array based functional research of the human genome. Ethical perspectives in micro array technology and genetic hazard information.

Learning outcome

The aim of the course is to provide the student with basic knowledge of micro array technology, the main principles of data analysis and the main areas of application of the technology. This knowledge will provide a basis for ethical reflections concerning the use of this technology.
The students who have participated in the laboratory course will also be able to accomplish the micro matrise experiment.

18 hours of lectures, 10 hours of supervised self-tuition.

Required previous knowledge

Admission requirements:
Master's Degree level or similar. Medical students at the Student Research Programme. Other candidates with lower degree will be evaluated individually.
