About the course

Course content

A basic introduction to the devices of filmmaking and to the use of basic video production equipment in connection with shooting and editing is provided through practical production exercises as well as lectures. Production exercises primarily take place in groups.

Learning outcome

The course presents basic narrative and technical aspects in the field of video production.
During the course the students will achieve:

-familiarity with the conceptual system of the audiovisual media from a practical and theoretical standpoint

-familiarity with the distinctive character of audiovisual media's form of communication

-familiarity with the practical details of production from idea to completed media product

-familiarity with the use of modern technical production equipment

-the ability to produce individual projects.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars, group sessions, exercises.

Course requirements:
All instruction is compulsory, with a required 80% attendance.

More on the form of assessment:
An written assignment on 8-12 pages counts as 1/3 of the final grade.
A production assignment counts as 2/3 of the final grade.

All components of the assessment must be passed. If you fail on one part of the examination you must retake the part which you have failed. You are not required to retake the part that you have passed. The final grade will be given when both parts of the examination are passed. If a new practical examination is to be given, the date and time for the examination will be set based on the resources of the Department.

Students are required to check the results of their assignments on the department's bulletin boards.


The students are required to keep abreast of relevant messages from the department or the teacher at It's learning and Innsida, alternatively at course web pages or bulletin boards.

Compulsory assignments

  • 80 % attendance in compulsory instructions.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Filmvitenskap og medieproduksjon (BFILMPROD)
Kunst, medier og kommunikasjon (BKUNST)

Required previous knowledge

MPROD1000, FILM1001. Requires admission to the Bachelor's specialization in Media Production.
