About the course

Course content

Through production exercises, lectures, and examples for analysis, students will become familiar with important issues connected to the production of documentary films. The course includes an introduction to the use of modern production equipment.



Learning outcome

The subject aims at giving the students a practical and theoretical introduction to the production of documentary and fiction film.
During the course the students will gain insight into the dictinctive communicative character of documentary and fiction film. In addition to this, they will also be given the opportunity to get acquainted with the practical production process from idea to finished product and with the use of modern technical equipment for video production.
This will strengthen their ability to complete their own practical projects.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars, group sessions, exercises.


Course requirements:
All instruction is compulsory, with a required 80% attendance.


More on the form of assessment:
A written assignment on 8-12 pages counts as 1/3 of the final grade.
A production assignment counts as 2/3 of the final grade.

All components of the assessment must be passed. If you fail on one part of the examination you have to retake the part which you have failed. You are not required to retake the part that you have passed. The final grade will be given when both parts of the examination are passed. If a new practical examination is to be given, the date and time for the examination will be set based on the resources of the Department.

The students are required to keep posted on relevant messages from the department or the teacher at It's learning and Innsida, alternatively at course web pages or bulletin boards.

Filmvitenskap og medieproduksjon (BFILMPROD)
Kunst, medier og kommunikasjon (BKUNST)

Required previous knowledge

MPROD1001, FILM1002, FILM1003, FILM2001. Requires admission to the Bachelor's specialization in Media Production.
