About the course

Course content

Individual lectures and independent work on the instrument. In addition, the student must participate as a soloist or with chamber-music in a minimum of three public concerts, including one concert organised by Department of music. For piano, accordion, and guitar, accompaniment instruction is included. The student will receive tutoring by the principal instrument teacher and other teachers as he/she works on subjects in the form of projects, alone or in groups, preparing for the musical profession. The student may focus on a certain genre, style, or on selected composers.


Learning outcome

The aim of the course is for the student to be able to perform and communicate music at a high level both as a soloist and as a part of various ensembles, to develop creatively and personally as a musician/singer, and to master different types of concerts and performing situations or playing in a recording studio.

Learning methods and activities

Individual tutoring – 1 lesson a week for 27 weeks.
Interpretation – 2 group lessons for 20 weeks. In addition there will be 2 hours of interpretations in up to 6 weeks in a group just for the HIE-students.
Ensemble - 2 hours in groups for 10 weeks. Interpretation and ensemble offerings may be rearranged.
Accompaniment.
Project - various forms of instruction.

Repertoire list for all 4 years of study and examination consert-program must be submitted for teacher approval prior to April 1st.

Compulsory assignments

  • Satisfactory participation in compulsory instruction
  • Project report
  • Studied repertoire minimum 360 minutes

Musikk, utøvende (BMUSP)

Required previous knowledge

Requires passed MUSP4130 or corresponding course. The students who chooses this subject must be highly qualified on their principal instrument and a qualifying audition might be required.
