MUSP4146 - Accompaniment B

Course content

The course covers accompaniment-/ensemble literature for the most common solo instruments/songs of important periods and genres. The student will accompany at internal concerts in the study period. The student may choose to specialize in one particular genre. Students will receive some training in reduction of orchestra transcriptions etc.
For piano and guitar: some basic training in general bass playing, for guitar also tabulator playing.
The student must independently organize accompaniment with fellow students at the start of the semester.

Learning outcome

The course will develop the student's ability to accompany other musicians and vocalists in an active, listening, and flexible way. The student will also learn more specialized forms of accompaniment, e.g. repetition tasks, continuo playing etc.

Learning methods and activities

Individual instruction - 1 lesson a week for 27 weeks. Observation of teachers accompaiment lectures. The student must participate in at least two concerts prior to the exams.

Repertoire list and examination program with teacher approval must be submitted prior to April 1st.

  • Satisfactory participation in compulsory instruction
  • A minimum of 90 minutes studied repertoire

Recommended previous knowledge

Required previous knowledge

Requires passed MUSP4136 or corresponding course. Principal instrument must have been piano, guitar or other chord instrument. To be on a high level in prima-vista playing is an advantage.
