Course content
The course covers different aspects of liturgical organ play:
- Choral playing
- Liturgical parts
- Prelude/intonation
- Independent organ pieces
- Choral-related improvisation
- Free-form organ improvisation
Compulsory course in Liturgics/Hymnology B:
The course is based on the development of liturgical history, psalm- and choral history, and a knowledge and reflection on various basic aspects and ideas related to the Norwegian church and church services.
Learning outcome
The student should acquire skills in and knowledge of liturgical playing and organ improvisation. This involves skills required for sermon playing, knowledge and understanding of the particular features of congregation singing, and exercise in improvisational skills needed for liturgical organ playing.
In addition, the course involves a study of the development of liturgic history, psalm- and choral history and a knowledge and reflection on various basic aspects and ideas related to the Norwegian church and church services.
Learning methods and activities
Group instruction - 2.5 hours pr. week.
Compulsory courses.
Liturgical Organ Playing: The examination is a 30 minutes consert. The information about the assessment is given a month prior to the exam. The assessment itself is given out three days prior to the examination.
Organ Improvisation:
The exam is of 15 minutes duration. The assessment is given out 24 hours prior to the examnination.
Compulsory course in Liturgics/Hymnology B:
Instruction: One 1-hour lecture pr. week for 27 weeks.
Assessment: Pass/fail based on written assignments and attendance in the compulsory instruction.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Musikk, utøvende (BMUSP)
Required previous knowledge
Requires passed MUSP4520 or corresponding course.
