About the course

Course content

The course deals with advanced choral- and ensemble management, arrangement and composition related to the usual choral management tasks required of a church musician. The Department's church choir functions as the rehearsal ensemble. During the academic year at least one larger project is undertaken, where students have the opportunity to study and lead a choir/ensemble in a church service/concert.
Course in Singing as supporting instrument:
The course should provide the students with a basic introduction to rational and correct voicing for speaking and singing, in relation to various job functions, such as choral instruction, management of congregation- and community singing, etc.

Learning outcome

The course should give the student versatility and competence in church music conducting.

Learning methods and activities

Groups - 2 hours pr. week for 27 weeks.
Attendance in the Department of Music's church choir for 2 hours a week.
Final examination shold be about 30 minutes, including the rehearsal of an unknown piece of work with a 48-hour preparation.
Course in Singing as supporting instrument- 0,5 hours per week for 27 weeks.

Compulsory assignments

  • Satisfactory participation in compulsory instruction
  • Compulsory singing in the Department´s church choire 2 hours per week
  • Singing as supporting instrumen

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Musikk, utøvende (BMUSP)

Required previous knowledge

Requires completede course in Conducting B (part of MUSP4525) or corresponding course.
