About the course

Course content

An independent postgraduate study forms the main part of the performing Master's degree. The content depends on the chosen topic.
For the programme option Composition the following apply:
The student chooses, in cooperation with his or her academic supervisor, a large, or several smaller, composition projects that are to be completed in the duration of the master's degree.

Learning outcome

Through work with the topic, the student is expected to further develop her/his competence to an advanced level within the chosen topic of concentrated study.

Learning methods and activities

Forms of instruction and activities vary according to the theme and character of the chosen topic for the student's postgraduate study. Individual- and group instruction, seminars, master classes, and independent written work of varying character are all potential forms of study. Each student/ensemble will be assigned an academic supervisor for the entire period of the postgraduate study. The student must offer at least one Master's degree concert, or some other production during the first year of study. In the third semester the student must hold another concert/production. The final examination is a third concert/production at the end of the fourth semester.

All concerts/productions must be related to the theme and character of the chosen topic for the student's postgraduate study.

For the programme option Composition the following apply:
The form of study is individual instruction. During the first year the student must present an agreed upon number of smaller works or part(s) of a larger work. The same apply at the end of the third semester. At the end of the forth semester the student delivers what he/she has produced during the period of study, or a selection of the production in accordance with the students plan for the concentrated study.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Musikk, utøvende (MMUSP)

Required previous knowledge

Requires admission to the Master's programme in Music Performance Studies.
The appliants must write a plan for the study (one page), and the complete plan must delivered before October 1st in the first semester.
