About the course

Course content

The course focuses on style-profiled interpretation, historically informed performance practices, and individually based musical intuition and estethic orientation. Through examples of various interpretational approaches to music of different origins, core questions concerning style, origin and authenticity of musical performances are discussed. A performance-based approach to the academic content through the use of the student's own compositions and reportoire is integrated in the course.

Learning outcome

To develop an awareness, knowledge and reflection on style-profiled and historically informed approaches to musical performances, as well as a strengthening of the student's own musical intuition and preference of musical styles.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars, interpretation/concert. The assignment should be max 4 pages, and is a reflection on the student`s own conventions of performance in light of what has been the focus of this course.

Required previous knowledge

Admission to the Master's programme in Music Performance Studies.
