About the course
Course content
Through studies of relevant literature and examples, the course provides an introduction to central characteristics regarding the musical development in western culture. Within the historical perspective, emphasis is placed on the music's position in a social and cultural context. In addition to the reading list, a compulsory syllabus of musical work, excerpts and examples are included.
Learning outcome
The objective of the course is to provide an introduction to central characteristics in the music history of western culture, from the Middle Ages until ca the year 1800.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and compulsory attendance to seminars. Minimum 2 written essays must be delivered during the semester. The text for the home examination should have a maximum length of 10 pages (typed, 1,5/12).
