About the course

Course content

The course provides an introduction to both the oldest and most recent of the artistic expressions in Africa. The focal point is a culture specific anthroplogical understanding, where the integration of the art forms is highlighted. One important aspect is also the more recent, "Creolised", globalised or cross cultural varieties of expression, often categorised as World Music, World Theatre or World Literature.

Learning outcome

The main objective of the course is to provide a survey of the diversity of African music traditions, the musics historical background and its integration into society.
