About

About the course

Course content

The Portfolio of Compositions is the equivalent work load of one full academic year. The student chooses, in cooperation with his or her academic supervisor, one large, or several smaller, composition projects that are to be completed during the studying period of the master's degree. Regardless of whether the decision falls upon one large or a number of smaller compositions, the completed works must show a certain breadth regarding the choice of ensemble combinationsand formal solutions.

Learning outcome

Through working with his or her own compositions, the student must develop his or her competence to a higher level. Honing skills within instrumentation and orchestration will be emphasized. The same applies for the development of the ability to be able to carry through musical ideas over larger time spans, and the ability to find form solutions that corresponds to the student's individual musical material.

Learning methods and activities

Individual instruction, guest lecturers and potentially seminars.
Compulsory assignments:
During the first year the student must present an agreed upon number of smaller works or part(s) of a larger work. The same applies at the end of the third semester. At the end of the forth semester the student delivers what he/she has produced during the period of study for a final assessment (the Portfolio assessment).
