About the course
Course content
This course gives an introduction to second language aquisition and interlanguage varieties. Different second language aquistion theories will be emphasized, and also how these can be used to analyze immigrants' usage of the Norwegian language. The main focus will be to investigate and analyze the language system itself (morphology, syntax, semantics, prosody), but also communicative and societal aspects concerning second language aquistition.
Learning outcome
By the end of the course, the student should have obtained good knowledge of central aspects of the aquisition of Norwegian as a second language. They will, in addition, be closely aquainted with central concepts and analytical tools in a selection of theories on second language aquisition. The students hould be able to use these in giving valid analyses of the inter-language varieties that is spoken by immigrants in Norway. The students should be able to use the analytical tools they have learned in an independent manner.
Learning methods and activities
Teaching: lectures and written assignments. It will be emphasized that the students should be able to use the analytical tools they aquire in an independent manner.
The students must have an approved reading list and 4 small approved assignments. Oral/written feedback on the assignments will be given.
Compulsory assignments
- Four approved written assignments.
- Approved reading list.
Recommended previous knowledge
NORD1102 and NORD1106, or equivalent.
