About the course
Course content
Linguistic topics: The student shall gain thorough and systematic knowledge of an empirical and/or theoretical topic of their own choice.
Literary topics: The course focuses on understanding the significance and relevance of theoretical issues in scholarly work with literary texts, and how to use theory and method when working with texts.
Learning outcome
Linguistic topics: At the completion of the course, the student should have in-depth theoretical/empirical understanding of an individually chosen topic, and he/she is expected to be able to give an insightful analysis of a selected problem within the chosen area of study.
Literary topics: At the completion of the course, the student should have developed their competence in applying perspectives and approaches from literary theory and methodology in scholarly work with texts.
Learning methods and activities
Seminars. Students are expected to take active part in the seminars, with oral presentations, in discussions etc. Approved reading list is required. Assessment: A 14-day take home assignment. Scope 12-15 pages.

Bachelor's degree with specialization in Scandinavian Studies, or equivalent.

Course materials
Individual curriculum.The student composes his/her individual reading list in collaboration with teacher/superviser. The reading list must be approved by the department.
Linguistic topics: The student composes an individual reading list consisting of approx. 900 pages. This shall be a theoretical/empirical course, and may
Literary topics: The reading list shall consist of approx. 600 pages of literary theory and -method, plus a selection of fictional texts in different genres with a scope of 4 works.
