Course content

Scandinavian literature:
The readings consists of 3 theoretical works related to the master’s thesis.
Scandinavian linguistics:
Students compile individual reading list of 450 pages thematically related to the master's thesis.

Learning outcome

The goal of this course is to prepare the work with the master's thesis. The students will aquire knowledge about bibliographic study, source criticism, creation of hypotheses etc - and academic writing in general. The course end with the production of a project draft for the master's thesis.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and group sessions. Individual supervision.
Course requirements:
Approved reading list and submitted master’s thesis.
Asessment: approved outline for thesis. The project outline shall be discussed in the seminar and handed in for approval by the end of the semester. The project outline will be evaluated by a comittee of the student's academic superviser and another teacher at the department. The project outline will receive the grades approved/not approved and it should be approximately 5 pages. It should have a clear thesis and several work hypotheses is recommended. The student is asked to describe their method(s), source material and other material. The projects outline shall include a documentation of relevant literature and a draft for bibliography. Also, the student should present a plan for their work with the thesis.

Student's who study full time (delays should be discussed with the department) should have their draft approved by the end of the second semester of study. An approved project outline is neccessary to continue the work with the master's thesis.

Nordisk språk og litteratur (MNORD)

Required previous knowledge

Admission to the Master's programme in Scandinavian.
