Course content
Didactics deals with systematic training and schooling in schools and other institutions. The course provides an introduction to the most important notions and models that are
essential in explaining, understanding and analysing education processes, and how teaching can be evaluated and developed. Emphasis will be put on understanding the position of teaching in a larger social- and cultural situation, which problems are connected to the control of training, the conflict between national curricula and the consideration paid to local freedom, and how local school cultures are developed. The importance of teachers in education, and students experience of schools will also be discussed. The course is obligatory in order to achieve full specialisation in education studies.
Learning outcome
Through lectures and work in groups, students are to acquire insight into how cultural, political and economic circumstances contribute to shaping schools activities, both concerning their aims, teaching methods, contents and evaluation systems. Students are to show insight into- and ability to discuss - questions about school governance, school development, the definition of a good school, how good schooling is encouraged, and which functions schools have regarding both students and society as a whole.
Learning methods and activities
Teaching method and activities: 4 hours of lectures per week, 2 hours seminar per week.
Compulsory activity: Approved written assignment (4-6 pages).
Form of assessment: 6-hour individual written exam.
